AGM 2021 – Postponement

New date – Sunday 31st October

This letter is to inform you that the Committee of Management has, after fully considering the information available to us, taken the decision to postpone the Annual General Meeting for 2021.

This is a decision that has not been made lightly and has been guided by a clear responsibility to put the health and safety of our owners and whānau, staff and stakeholders as our primary concern.

As many of you will be aware, last week the country was unsettled by news of the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 in the community.

At the recently held monthly meeting the Committee of Management met to consider a range of factors before making a decision on whether to postpone or move the AGM to an online hui. The key factors included:

  • the uncertainty of the immediate future due to the unfolding developments related to cases of Covid- 19 across the country especially in Auckland and Wellington.
  • the cancellation of in person hui by Māori organisations in light of the community cases.
  • a number of other local Māori land trusts and Incorporations have contacted MPBI and indicated they are postponing in-person hui.
  • a significant number of the Beneficial Owners who attend the AGM are elderly.
  • Beneficial Owners travel from throughout Aotearoa to attend the AGM and require time to make changes to their travel plans and accommodation.
  • attendance at this year’s AGM is likely to be over 100.
  • the AGM is held at an indoor and council owned venue; and
  • Māori are at heightened risk should Covid-19 be transmitted.

While the Committee of Management are sorry for any disruption to travel that this decision may have caused for some of you, we are and remain unwilling to compromise on our very real commitment and obligations to make decisions which put the health, safety, and well-being of all our owners and whānau as the priority.

The AGM will now be held on Sunday 31st October.

The venue and agenda for the day remain the same. Please refer to our website for further details.

We thank you for your consideration and understanding on this matter.

Nā Kevin Haua

Chairman
